Montenegro and World Meteorological Organization ( WMO )

Montenegro became member of the World Meteorological Organization on January 5, 2007. Director of the Hydrological and Meteorological Service of Montenegro is a Montenegrin permanent member in the Organization.
The first meeting in Montenegro under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organization, held on 27th April 2007 within the project “Development of the state weather observing and forecasting in the Sava river basin”. The delegation of Montenegro participated at the 15th WMO Congress in Geneva from 5-21 May 2007. On that occasion Montenegro officially became 188th member of the WMO.
Within the program of cooperation, WMO approved assistance to the Hydrological and Meteorological Service of Montenegro for the establishment of the telecommunication centre in Podgorica.
Hydrological and Meteorological Service is engaged in drafting the project »The modernisation of national state weather services in South – East Europe «, realisation of which, as in previous project, will be sponsored by the World Bank through the partnership with WMO.
The membership in WMO provides possibilities for applying for technical, personnel and expert support, especially regarding supply of modern equipment.
