Montenegro and the World Health Organization ( WHO )

Montenegro became 193rd member state of the World Health Organization and 53rd member of the European Regional Group on 14 September 2006. Cooperation between the Government of Montenegro /Ministry of Health/ and WHO is based upon the International Cooperation Agreement. This Agreement defines priorities within the health sector:

- enhancement of the health system aimed at providing better exchange of information, pharmacy politics and willingness of the health system to answer in the case of accident
- promotion of health and prevention of the contagious diseases;
- improvement of efforts in addressing the contagious diseases through the supervision and immunization and
- environment protection aimed at improvement of health, with special focus on food security.
Montenegro regularly participates at the sessions of the World Health Assembly in Geneva. At the 58th Session of the Regional Committee of WHO for Europe in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 15 - 18 November 2008, the representative of Montenegro was elected as a member of the Permanent Committee of the Regional Committee for Europe.
