Alliance of Civilisations - AOC The Alliance of Civilizations is an initiative of the United Nations based on the universal values of promotion of understanding, dialogue, and trust among various ethnical communities, cultures and religions proposed by the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on 14 July 2005. The intention was to create a coalition against extreme attitudes and powers, as a movement for promotion of mutual respect for religions and traditions in order to affirm basic values of the mankind. While having in mind multi-century tradition of fostering multicultural and multi-civilization relations, developing an intercultural dialogue and promoting the respect for differences, in August 2007 Montenegro joined the Group of Friends of the Alliance of Civilizations. In order to promote Montenegro's activities in the Alliance of Civilizations Group of friends, Montenegro appointed its focal point in the AoC Group of Friends network. In the previous period, Montenegro took part in main meetings of the Alliance of Civilizations Group of Friends, fora and ministerial conferences organized under the framework of the Alliance of Civilizations: On the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Plan for the Implementation of the Programme of Alliance of Civilizations (AoC) was developed by the Working group coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with participation of representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Media, the Ministry for Protection of Human and Minority Rights, the Ministry of Interior Affairs and Public Administration, the Ministry of Justice, and the Centre for Emigrants, in cooperation with the representative of Montenegro in the Network of the Group of Friends of the AoC. National Plan was submitted to the Secretariat of the Alliance of Civilizations in New York, and is available on the official web portal: www.unaoc.org National Plan is based upon achieved results of relevant bodies and planned activities in four key areas of the Alliance of Civilizations: education, youth, media and migrations. Drafting methodology was in line with the Alliance of Civilisation Implementation plan for the period 2007-2009 and universally accepted practice of the AoC Group of Friends member states.
