Press release: Regional Conference of Justice and Interior Ministers of SEECP Participating States, Budva, March 16-18, 2011

ministri_pravde_SEECPThe regional conference of justice and interior ministers of the SEECP participating states was held in Budva on March 16-18, 2011 on the topic "Strengthening cooperation in fight against organised crime in South-East Europe." The conference was held as part of the Montenegrin chairmanship of the SEECP and it gathered justice and interior ministers of the participant states, regional and international institutions' representatives and diplomatic representatives accredited to Montenegro.

Day one was dedicated to the judiciary. The topic was "Strengthening mutual legal assistance in criminal matters." The participant states unanimously agreed that it is necessary to establish more direct cooperation in the region based on regulations in accordance with European standards and based on mutual trust. They also agreed that notable success in international legal countries has been achieved among the countries of the region.
Day two dealt with the area of internal affairs and the topic was "Regional cooperation mechanisms in fight against organised crime." The participants were unanimous in identifying as necessary the coordination of joint activities towards further development of direct law enforcement, prosecution authorities' and judiciary contacts in the region.
The participants adopted the Budva Declaration on strengthening regional cooperation and coordination in fight against organised crime in South-East Europe, as well as the Common Declaration of justice and interior ministers of SEECP participant countries related to the endorsement of the Regional Strategic Document on justice and home affairs for the period 2011-2013 with the accompanying Action Plan.
