Minister of Foreign Affairs Milan Roćen participated at the Ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Sharm El Sheikh, which was held prior to the 15th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement. Head of Montenegrin Delegation at the Summit will be President Filip Vujanović. The meeting in Sharm el Sheikh, gathered number of foreign ministers of member states, observers and guests, and was dedicated to the issues of peace and development and strengthening of solidarity in facing the current global challenges, especially the world economic crisis. By participating at the Ministerial meeting as an observer, Montenegro confirmed its foreign policy platform in which support for multilateralism and development of bilateral relations take central part.

Interest of Montenegro for its promotion within this broad international political framework is even greater due to its ambitions for membership to the main United Nations working bodies. Participation of Minister Roćen at the NAM Ministerial Meeting was an excellent opportunity for bilateral contacts for informing representatives of participating countries about the development capacities of Montenegro and its foreign policy priorities. Furthermore, during the meetings with head of delegations of NAM countries that still haven’t established diplomatic relations with Montenegro it was agreed to finalize already initiated procedure.

Minister Rocen had a brief informal meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Ahmed Aboul Gheit, new Chairman of the NAM Movement, as well as with ministers of foreign affairs and heads of delegation of Paraguay, Lebanon, Palestine, Guinea, Oman, Suriname, Thailand, Colombia and other countries. As a part of regular practice in multilateral fora, Minister Roćen also had meetings with foreign ministers from the region.
