Minister of Foreign Affairs Milan Roćen met today with Serhio Holovati and Jean Charles Gardetto, reporters of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, who are visiting Montenegro with a goal of preparing a report on the implementation of obligations deriving from Montenegro’s membership in the Council of Europe.
The representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly said Montenegro had achieved visible progress in the past two years since becoming a member of the Council of Europe, but that, on the other hand, further efforts were needed in some areas in order to achieve full compliance with standards defined by the CoE. In this context, special attention was given to the results so-far achieved
in the fields of justice, rule of law, human rights, media. They also discussed the innovation and implementation of the Government’s Action Plan which specified tasks and deadlines for fulfilling assumed obligations.
Minister Roćen pointed out that Montenegro, as the youngest member of CoE, was fully committed to respecting the values and the principles of this pan-European organization, and reiterated that the Montenegrin Government attached great importance to cooperation with the Council of Europe, particularly because this partnership greatly contributed to more successful realization of Montenegro’s strategic European and Euro-Atlantic goals.
