Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Milan Roćen met today with British ambassador Kevin Lyne.

Rocen and Lyne expressed satisfaction with the progress of the relations between Montenegro and the Great Britain, and exchanged views on possibilities to work jointly towards strengthening economic cooperation and overall bilateral relations.

Special attention was given to the initiative of erecting a monument to commemorate the 65th anniversary of a special operation which the British Army, together with local citizens and other Allies, undertook in the Montenegrin village Donja Brezna during the World War II.  In the course of the operation, during 1943 and 1944, some 1000 wounded Partisans were evacuated and rescued. Minister Rocen and Ambassdor Lyne jointly concluded that this event, which besides Montenegro and the Great Britain would also involve other states, aimed not only at reminding of important events from our shared history, but also at promoting reconciliation, and emphasizing the need to look forward towards our common European future.
