pic_31102011-1Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Roćen hosted today newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative to Montenegro Rastislav Vrbensky.

Minister Roćen wished Ambassador Vrbenky success in his mission and thanked him for the UN's support in pursuing key goals from the cooperation programmes, which include EU accession negotiation assistance, social inclusion, support to vulnerable groups, climate change response, and regional and sustainable development.

Mr Vrbensky praised the results Montenegro achieved domestically and in the process of EU integration. He underlined the significant potential and advantages Montenegro has in running cooperation programmes with UN agencies, which according to him make up a solid base for progress and furthering of the UN principles.


They agreed to intensify the cooperation programmes between Montenegro and the UN in accordance with the 2012-2016 action plans for implementation of cooperation to be signed with UNDP and UNICEF in December. The key aspect of future cooperation will include the UN expert support to the negotiation process and the adoption and implementation of European standards.


Regarding the ongoing activities of the Acting as One programme, it has been noted that Montenegro's forthcoming participation at the intergovernmental conference of Acting as One countries in Uruguay on 8-10 November will be an opportunity for a shared presentation of experiences and results in the implementation of integrated action, efficient response to national priorities and utilisation of development resources.
