Press Release: Consultations between the Chief negotiator with civil society representatives

The chief negotiator, Ambassador Aleksandar Andrija Pejovic, discussed today with representatives of civil sector the process of accession negotiations with the EU and the establishment of negotiating structures.

They exchanged opinions on most immediate obligations of Montenegro in the run up to the opening of accession negotiations with special accent on the establishment of the negotiating structures.

Ambassador Pejovic presented key activities in the forthcoming period and underlined the importance of absorbing all necessary potential of the Montenegrin society and the involvement and devotion of different social structures, where the NGO's in particular have a special role to play.

NGO representatives welcomed the opening of a dialogue over important issues and expressed expectation that the negotiating process will be transparent and provide for their participation. They also expressed willingness to give their contribution in the next demanding phase of the European Integration process.  

The chief negotiator underlined that the proposed organisational structure of the negotiating team envisages participation of civil sector representatives in working groups and stressed the importance of their contribution in this respect.

They agreed that in the following period the cooperation needs to be enhanced though intensive communication and exchange of opinions on key challenges and planned activities.
