Minister Rocen supported priorities of the Danish presidency and thanked for the assistance of the Nordic countries to Montenegro in its democratic reforms and expressed hope that Montenegro could count on their support in the future as well, especially in the run up to the new phase of the EU accession which is the formal start of the negotiation process. In this context Minister Rocen reiterated that Montenegro is very content with the decision of the European Council, especially having in mind the overall setup in which the decision had been made and underlined the strong commitment to continue meeting the necessary requirements from European and Euro-Atlantic agendas. He informed the interlocutors about the activities and the dynamics of the preparation of the negotiating structures in accordance with the new approach of the European Commission and noted that the responsibility in this process lies primarily with the Government and the Parliament, but also with other relevant actors in the society which, as he pointed out, best ensures the ownership over the process. The Nordic ambassadors underlined that the EU enlargement is of strategic importance for their countries which also confirms the agenda of the Danish presidency and that the Western Balkans should be in the focus of the enlargement process. They stressed the importance of the role of Montenegro in the promotion of enlargement to the Western Balkans Policy following the end of accession negotiations with Croatia.
They also exchanged opinions on bilateral relations and regional cooperation, including with regard to the progress of the region towards the membership in EU and NATO. They agreed that the experience of the Nordic countries could be a good example for further strengthening of regional cooperation and good neighbourly relations. When it comes to bilateral relations it has been pointed out that there are different possibilities for their further development, especially concerning political contacts at all levels. Danish Ambassador Mette Nielsen announced a visit of the Danish Minister for European Affairs, Mr Nikolas Wamen, to Montenegro and the region. |
