Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Rocen met today in Berlin with Foreign Policy Advisor of Chancelor Angela Merkel Christoph Heusgen to discuss issues related to Montenegro's European and Euro-Atlantic integration process. Mr Heusgen congratulated Montenegro on the European Commission's recommendation on the opening accession negotiations and underlined that German Government supports the EU Enlargement to the Western Balkans. He said it was important that the process continues for the sake of stability and progress of the region and the EU, and added that each country's progress should be assessed on the basis of its own achievements. He encouraged Montenegro to continue with reforms in order to meet the criteria which would be beneficial for also for strengthening of the bilateral cooperation.
Minister Rocen informed Mr Heusgen of current activities of Montenegro concerning the seven key priorities with emphasis on developments following the Commission's Progress Report and conveyed expectations that Montenegro's efforts will be taken into account. Interlocutors also exchanged opinions on current developments in the region and the enhancement of bilateral cooperation, thus expressing content with dynamic contacts between the two countries over the past year. |
