Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Roćen hosted today the Ambassador of Germany, Mr Pius Fischer.
Mr Fischer expressed content regarding the European Council's decision regarding the date for opening the accession negotiations with Montenegro, in particular pointing to the importance the positive decision has for Montenegro bearing in mind the current state of affairs in the EU. The Council's decision is an important signal that the enlargement policy has not stopped after the accession agreement was signed with Croatia, but remains high on the German and the EU agenda, said Mr Fischer, adding that he believes that Montenegro will successfully continue this process if it continues with the same pace and quality.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Rocen will depart tomorrow to Tirana where he will, at the invitation of Albanian Foreign Minister Edmond Haxhinasto, participate at a ministerial meeting of the American-Adriatic Charter (A5). The meeting will attend the NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, James Appathurai.

 Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Rocen met tonight with the Prime Minister f Ukraine Mykola Azarov who is in an official visit to Montenegro.
In a short and friendly conversation they underlined the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Ukrainian Embassy in Montenegro in strengthening the bilateral relations and overall cooperation between the two countries. They expressed content with plans for the opening of a Montenegrin Embassy in Kiev which will be another important milestone for the modernisation of cooperation in mutual interest. |

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Rocen will depart to Berlin tomorrow where he will attend a two-day Conference Challenges and Perspectives for the Western Balkan Countries, organised by Aspen Institute in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Bavarian Government and the South-East Europe Association.
Tomorrow, Minister Rocen will participate at a panel 'Quo Vadis, Western Balkans? – Challenges for the EU and the US'.
The Conference will gather together officials from the US, Germany and the Western Balkans for exchange of opinions on European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the region. The second part will be closed to the public. |

Minister Rocen thanked his counterpart for the significant bilateral support which Denmark provides to Montenegro in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration and expressed belief that, despite the challenges the EU is currently facing, Denmark will keep the Enlargement policy high among the priorities of its presidency which is in mutual interest of the EU and the countries which aspire to become members.
Minister Rocen noted that he expects that tomorrow the European Council will decide positively on the opening of accession negotiations between Montenegro and the EU and that during the Danish presidency Montenegro would have to continue meeting further commitments in this process.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Rocen participated at the meeting in Brussels of Foreign Ministers of NATO member states and the contributors to the ISAF mission to Afghanistan. The participants discussed the future of the ISAF mission in Afghanistan in the context of the transition process which is expected to end in 2014 and the plans for long term engagement of the international community in accordance with conclusions of the international conference on Afghanistan held in Bonn three days ago. The meeting chaired by the Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, attended ministers of 50 contributors to the ISAF mission to Afghanistan, among which the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Zalmai Rasul, the US State Secretary Hillary Clinton, and the Foreign Ministers of the UK, Germany and Canada

The State Secretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Ambassador Nebojsa Kaludjerovic, attended an Intergovernmental meeting at the ministerial level on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Refugee Convention and the 50th anniversary of the Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness which took place in Geneva on 7-8 December.
The Conference gathered together UN member states, representatives of international organisations, experts and NGO representatives. Special guests were the US State Secretary Hillary Clinton and the former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari.
