Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Rocen hosted today Luxembourg's Minister of Development, Cooperation, and Humanitarian Affairs Marie-Josée Jacobs.

Minister Rocen thanked Luxembourg's government for their support to Montenegro, particularly in the area of development aid through government agency Lux Development and the humanitarian organization Caritas Luxembourg at the north of the country. He noted that this corresponds with our internal and foreign policy priorities. In that context he underlined that the opening of accession negotiations will yield new opportunities for greater cooperation with Luxembourg.

A constitutive meeting of the Presidency of the National Convention on European Integration took place today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Rocen chaired the meeting which attended representatives of the Government, the Parliament, Local Authorities, and civil society. Ambassador of Slovakia to Montenegro František Lipka, Chief Negotiator for accession negotiations of Montenegro to the European Union Aleksandar Andrija Pejovic, and Secretary General of the European Movement in Montenegro Momcilo Radulovic who will be working on the implementation of this project together with the Slovak Foreign Policy Association also attended the meeting.

A large welcome note to Montenegro was displayed this morning on the facade of the WTO headquarters in Geneva as Montenegro is set to join this organisation as its 154th member on 29 April 2012. This will be exactly one month since Montenegro submitted ratification documents, following their approval by the Parliament. Prime Minister Igor Luksic and WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy signed the Protocol on Accession to the WTO on 18 December 2011 in Geneva.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Rocen and the Director General for Enlargement Stefano Sannino discussed today in Brussels activities of Montenegro in the run up to the decision on the opening of accession negotiations with the European Union.
Minister Rocen and Director General Sannino discussed hitherto achievements with regard to meeting the seven key priorities and the preparation of the progress report contribution for 2012. They also discussed the implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, notably the themed Sub-committee meetings which have taken place so far. Minsiter Rocen informed Mr Sannino of the ongoing preparations for the bilateral screening for Chapters 23 and 24 which, scheduled for the end of May.

rocen19042012Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Rocen attended a Ministerial meeting of foreign ministers of NATO member states and partner countries – contributors to the ISAF mission which took place at the NATO headquarters. In the run up to the Chicago summit, Ministers discussed the future of Afghanistan, further steps towards shifting the full responsibility of ensuring the security of the country to Afghan authorities by the end of 2014, as well as the role of the NATO and the international community upon this date. All ISAF participants reiterated full support to Afghanistan after 2014, in the decade of the transition, and emphasized the importance of restoration and sustainability of Afghan security forces, institution building and the strengthening of the overall system of the state.

Government Office of the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong in Beijing adopted a Decision on visa liberalization with Montenegro thus enabling citizens of Montenegro which hold a valid travel document to enter, pass through the territory, and reside in Hong Kong up to 14 days withouth having to be issued with a visa starting from 20 April 2012.
