  • To present and represent your country, conduct its foreign policy, protect its interests as a diplomat in relations with other countries, within international institutions and organizations.

You will have an opportunity to develop professionally abroad, to travel, to exchange ideas, information, knowledge, values, life styles, behavioural patterns, traditions and customs – anything that contributes to own personal development and which will be valued in various circumstance and in interactions with others.
Diplomacy is a fine, but also a highly responsible job. It implies relations and cooperation with other countries and international organizations.
It requires knowledge, experience, ability, a fine sense of communication and negotiation, skill and readiness to participate in resolving the most complex of issues bilaterally and multilaterally in the best interest of your country.
A diplomat is obliged to successfully represent the state, protect its interests and the interests of its citizens, to have analytical skills and anticipate developments and processes in individual countries, international organisations and international relations generally, and inform thereof own country in a timely fashion.
The often quoted skills of a good diplomat include: good education, wide general and political culture, foreign language skills, integrity, composure, charm, cautiousness and objectivity, honesty, wisdom, prudence in thinking, determination and imagination, perceptiveness and insightfulness, etc.
There is probably no other profession where the errors and omissions of the actions take, and the consequences of the failures to act may have such detrimental and multiplied damages by way of political and economic consequences and one's prestige, as is the case with diplomacy. Therefore, an emphasised importance is attached to professionalism and competence in the diplomatic service. In addition to the desire, readiness and knowledge that you have, in order to engage in diplomacy you need to have experience and practice. It is essential to master the skills of the trade with utmost care and responsibility.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration performs the tasks referring to:
  • carrying out Montenegro's foreign policy with other states, international organisations and institutions,
  • monitoring the state of affairs and developments in international relations, as well as bilateral cooperation with other states,
  • monitoring and presenting political situation and coordinating activities of the Ministry and other government agencies in the EU accession process, Partnership for Peace, NATO and other regional and global international organisations and institutions,
  • giving initiatives to the Government for establishment and cessation of diplomatic relations with other states, Montenegro's membership to international organisations, presentation of Montenegro in United Nations, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Council of Europe and opening or closing diplomatic and consular offices,
  • performing diplomatic, consular and other professional tasks relating to the exercise of political, economic, cultural, informative and other relations with other states and international organisations,
  • drafting, concluding and executing international agreements and other international documents, etc.
