On 26 April 2010 in Kolašin, Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Telecommunications, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, organised a meeting of the ministers of transport titled “Multi-modal transport in the CEI region”.

The participants exchanged their views on the best practices related to the public-private partnerships in multi-modal transport, as well as recommendations for establishment of a new framework conducive to common solutions for the problems facing the countries of this region. During the general debate it was concluded that the development and integration of transportation networks in counties members of CEI aren’t satisfactory and that it is necessary to advance multi-modal transport through improved infrastructure, introduction of a harmonised legal framework and promotion in the similar regional and international fora. The participants also emphasised the need of cooperation with the chambers of commerce and of coordinated activities of governments, financial institutions and related actors with the aim of promoting public-private partnerships.

The host, Montenegrin Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Telecommunications Andrija Lompar emphasised that Montenegro was well aware of the fact that multi-modal transport is important on the regional and international level, especially in the context of European integrations, and that our country is open to every form of cooperation in this area. He expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Montenegro is back on the regional and European map, as it officially became part of the project of the drawing of transportation routes which, according to European Union standards, are to replace the earlier corridors. One of these routes passes through Montenegro, and is almost identical with the Adriatic-Ionic highway. The project envisages detailed development of transportation routes in South-East Europe, bringing the regional and European development projects closer to Montenegro.

Apart from the hosts, the meeting was attended by the Minister of Transport of Albania Sokol Oldasi, as well as by high-profile participants from other countries, represented by the deputies and advisors to ministers, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and international and regional organisations.
